A lifelong love of collecting pretty bits of glass, stones, wood and playing in her imagination, has led to decades of creating fantasy and nature themed intarsia, stained glass and mixed media art by native Texas artist, TerrieLynn Bach.
Intarsia, 13th century wood art, at one time could be found in Europe, primarily Italy, and enjoyed popularity for a time. Then disappeared as an art form from the public eye for centuries, only to recently see a resurgence in popularity.
A fascination with intarsia nearly 30 years ago, has led TerrieLynn down the creative path of making thousands of intarsia projects ranging in size from 2 inches to over 5 feet tall. She loves creating animals of all kinds, from pet portraits to wild beasts, flowers, birds, and fantasy. Her intarsia dragons, unicorns, goddesses, faeries are a favorite at Sherwood Forest Faire, as Lady Cat Dancing, TerrieLynn displays and sells her intarsia and stained glass art every March-April.
TerrieLynn’s first love will always be stained glass. The colors, the way the light shifts the colors, the joy of manipulating and being surprised by the effects of light through rainbow colors of stained glass is pure magic. Stained glass is like water with sunlight. This is more true than you know, while stained glass appears to be solid, it is actually a liquid in suspension. Small to large panels, treasure boxes of all sizes, kaleidoscopes, incense burners, jewelry boxes, ornaments, sun sparklers are always in her stained glass inventory.
Masterpieces like the Brazilla the Fiery, the series of individually named Water Dragons, Drawing Down the Moon and many Faeries are mixed media of intarsia combined with stained glass in creative ways, plus copper wire and Austrian crystals accents. TerrieLynn is the only known artist to combine intarsia and stained glass.
“I create art because I love doing it. Imagine, having a “job” that you love to do so much that time slips away, all while experiencing the true joy of bringing to life something beautiful, meaningful, significant, born of love and straight from my soul.” TLB
